Couple Stabbed Inside UWS Apartment, Son in Custody

Police have arrested the son of a Manhattan couple found stabbed inside their apartment Tuesday morning.

Investigators say a 71-year-old man was discovered with stab wounds to the face and chest on the eight floor of an apartment building located at 784 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side just before 6 a.m.

He was declared dead at the scene.

His 56-year-old wife had been stabbed in the chest and was taken to the hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Sources tell NY1 their 27-year-old son suffers from pyschological issues and has three prior arrests.

“Those that live in 784 are totally not surprised, some of them think they know who the family is, and think police have been called multiple times,” said one neighbor.

“You hear arguing happening in other apartments, but I certainly had no idea, this is terrible,” said another neighbor.

“It’s scary, I mean it’s horrible, it’s domestic violence, you never want to hear about that,” said a third neighbor.

Sources say bloody scissors were found at the scene and that police have responded to eight domestic incidents at the home since December 2004.
