Eight Hurt in Shelving Collapse at Bronx Store

Eight people were hurt Monday after shelving collapsed at a Bronx dollar store.

The collapse occurred shortly before 4 p.m.

It sent thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Discount Outlet on Morris Avenue spilling into the street.

Fire officials said the collapsing shelves caused a cascading effect throughout the store, burying people under a pile of debris.

One witness said she escaped just in time.

“I turned around, I heard the noise, I looked, and they were one through the other,” the witness said. “Everybody was running through the front. The people who can get out was out. It was so quick.”

Authorities said seven people sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones.

Officials are investigating what caused the collapse.
