Brooklyn Teen Shot in Eye Returns to School, Thanks Supporters

The Brooklyn teenager who was shot in the eye earlier this month received a warm welcome Monday as he returned to school.

An assembly was held at IS 285 in honor of Gama Droiville.

The eighth grader was joined by his family and City Council members.

Droiville was waiting at a bus stop when he was shot in the head two weeks ago.

Police say he was not the intended target.

Droiville spoke to the media, thanking supporters and asking for continued prayers.

City Council member Jumaane Williams says Droiville and his family need financial help as well.

“I just want to say thank you for all the support and prayers and to still keep me in prayers and hope I get better,” Droiville said.

“Kings County sent a bill to the family for some of the services, we hope it was erroneous, but if it wasn’t they’re going to need assistance,” Williams said.

A website has been set up to help Droiville’s family pay for his services.
