He had been charged with assault.

Cops busted a short-fused city garbage hauler after he hit a man during a fracas at the Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct Race Track in Queens early Sunday.

Vincent D’Amato, a nine-year Department of Sanitation veteran, was charged with assault, police said.

D’Amato’s 59-year-old father, Vincent D’Amato Sr., said his son was released from police custody a few hours after the 3 a.m. brawl and hasn’t been seen since.

“I am trying to figure out what happened,” the elder D’Amato said.

Cops were investigating what led the younger D’Amato to attack an unidentified man at the popular Jamaica racino. D’Amato earned $ 105,446 in 2010 as a tractor operator, according to findthedata.org.

A Department of Sanitation spokeswoman said D’Amato hadn’t notified the agency about the arrest and has up to 48 hours to tell his supervisors what happened.

“He can risk losing his job,” the spokeswoman said.
