Rangers Top Flyers in Pivotal Game 5 of First-Round Series


The New York Rangers have a 3 games to 2 lead in their first-round series against the Philadelphia Flyers after a 4-2 victory at Madison Square Garden in Game 5 Sunday afternoon.


The Rangers led 1-0 after one period, thanks to a goal from Marc Staal.


They took a 3-0 lead in the second period on goals from Brad Richards and Dominic Moore, but ended the second period up 3-1 following a goal by the Flyers’ Vincent Lecavalier.


The Flyers’ Claude Giroux made it 3-2 with 1:29 remaining in the third period, but Brian Boyle sealed the victory for the Rangers with an empty-net goal with 15 seconds remaining.


Henrik Lundqvist stopped 24 of 26 shots for the Rangers.


The Rangers will try to finish off the Flyers in Game 6 Tuesday in Philadelphia.
