Five Neighborhood Watch Group Members Arrested in Connection With Beating of Man in Williamsburg

Five members of a neighborhood watch group in Williamsburg are under arrest in connection with the beating of a man.

According to the district attorney’s office, the five men, who range in age from 19 to 39, have been indicted on a long list of charges, including gang assault, assault and unlawful imprisonment, in connection to the December attack on 23-year-old Taj Patterson.

Patterson told investigators he was walking through Williamsburg early on December 1 when he was stopped and knocked to the ground by more than a dozen men.

Officials said the men believed he had vandalized cars in the neighborhood.

He said they held him down and punched and kicked him in the face as some cheered.

Patterson lost his sight in one eye because of the attack.

Patterson also said the men shouted anti-gay slurs at him, but the suspects are not facing hate crime charges.
