Julie Menin, a former community board chairwoman in lower Manhattan and ex-restaurateur, was appointed to head the city’s Consumer Affairs department Thursday.
Menin promised to end the onslaught of fines that the city slaps on small businesses.
“We have to make sure we have equitable enforcement of any fines,” said Menin, a lawyer who sought the Democratic nomination for Manhattan borough president last year.
By the time Mayor de Blasio arrived to announce her appointment — more than 15 minutes late — City Councilman Rafael Espinal had already issued a press release congratulating Menin.
