MTA workers may get $3K if contract approves

Many transit workers will get checks for at least $ 3,000 if the tentative contract negotiated with the MTA is ratified.

The contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, announced last week by Gov. Cuomo, includes 8% in annual raises over five years, retroactive to January 2012. The raises are 1% for 2012 and 2013, and 2% per year from 2014-2016. A transit worker making $ 60,000 will get $ 3,011 in retroactive pay, according to Transport Workers Union Local 100, and a worker earning $ 80,000 will receive about $ 4,000.

The MTA also agreed to pay $ 6 million to replenish a “labor benefits” fund that was established about six years ago. The union can apply to the MTA for payments to be made from the fund for a range of union activities and expenses.
