Diane Keaton admits to eating 20,000 calories a day

Diane Keaton got candid on her past eating disorder.

The 68-year-old actress stopped by “The Dr. Oz Show” Thursday and opened up about what she described as the “lowest point” of her life.

“All I did was feed my hunger. So I was an addict,” she said of battling bulimia in her twenties.

Dr. Oz quotes the star’s latest book, “Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty,” and listed the food Keaton would consume on an average day.

“Typical dinner was a bucket of chicken, several orders of fries with blue cheese and ketchup, a couple TV dinners, a quart of soda, pounds of candy, a whole cake, and three banana cream pies.”

“I added this up.” Dr. Oz continued. “I added, and this is about 20,000 calories a day and you were purging it all.”

“Yeah, I was,” Keaton admitted.

“I was an obese person who had somehow tricked myself and managed to hide it.”

“When your living a lie for four years think about what that does to that four years, it wipes out any growth at all whatsoever.”

Dr. Oz asked Keaton how she eventually overcame her addiction.

“Somebody mentioned that I seemed to have some mental issues, so I went to an analyst. I would go five days a week. I lied to her for one year.”

“One day I stopped,” Keaton said.

“I never, ever did it again. I just stopped and I don’t even know why.”

Keaton first discussed her eating disorder struggles in her first book, “Then Again,” in November 2011 and said she felt relieved to finally be able to talk about her problem publicly.

“I have nothing to hide. It’s not relevant, but for me it feels good,” she wrote. “I think I’m a sister to all the rest of the women, and I’m sure men as well, who have had some kind of eating disorder, and I’m a part of the team.”
