Fashion’s elite flocked to the Met Monday morning to witness the ribbon cutting for the new Costume Institute, with the honors done by the First Lady of Fashion, Michelle Obama.

Industry bigs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Donatella Versace gathered ahead of the 10:30 am ceremony, mixing and mingling in the gorgeous wing housing the Egyptian Temple of Dendur.

The institute is being dedicated to Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, who has raised millions for the cause.

Nigel Barker, a fashion photographer famous for his shoots on “America’s Next Top Model,” said it was a well-deserved honor.

“I think it’s amazing,” he told the Daily News, remarking the fitting choice of exhibiting the work of mid-century designer Charles James for the inaugural show.

“It’s timeless, without a doubt,” he said.

J. Crew ingenue Jenna Lyons agreed. “I’m happy this is happening now,” the brand’s creative director said.

“Anna (Wintour) is an ambassador to the fashion industry.”

Designer Alexander Wang, a favorite of the First Lady, Vera Wang, Vogue’s Grace Coddington and stylish sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were also among the famous faces at Monday’s event.
