Overtime Goal Lifts Rangers over Penguins in Series Opener

Derick Brassard scored three minutes into overtime to lift the New York Rangers over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals Friday in Pittsburgh.

Benoit Pouliot and Brad Richards staked the Blueshirts to a 2-0 first period lead before Pittsburgh tied the game midway through the second.

After a scoreless third period, Brassard got the overtime game-winner from the slot when he converted Pouliot’s pass from behind the net.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots in the win.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Sunday in Pittsburgh.
