A woman whose belly button “erupted” while flying after plastic surgery has received almost $ 35,000 in compensation.
Patricia Jackson, from northern England, had been in Portugal in 2011 on vacation and was flying back to the UK when the bizarre incident occurred.
After the eruption, her belly button began leaking foul-smelling fluid, causing a fellow plane passenger to complain.
Years earlier, she had undergone a tummy tuck operation to remove excess skin following weight loss. Then 60-years-old, she was unhappy with the way she looked.
During the operation, in 2005, doctors had not created a new belly button for her because there was not enough skin left over after the operation.
This is apparently a common occurrence after such operations.
However, they failed to realize they had also left part of the old belly button inside her. This caused pain and itching, said Jackson.
Doctors only discovered that her original belly button had been left inside her after the incident on the plane.
She has since been given a new belly button, reports the Hull Daily Mail.
