A group of Florida fishermen caught a 12-foot hammerhead shark — and then delivered 20 of its babies.
The unusual catch occurred in Venice, reports TV station WPVT.
The group knew they made a major catch when they spent hours wrestling with their line until they final hauled in the shark. But they were shocked to discover the animal was pregnant.
People call me crazy but, I’d rather save a fish.
When they turned the shark over they realized something had taken a large bite out of the animal and they peered inside and discovered the 20 baby sharks.
“People call me crazy but, I’d rather save a fish,” Noe Campos told the station. “We (saw) the tail, pushing out. They were trying to push their heads out, so I’m guessing the mom tried to give birth but she didn’t have the strength to push them out.”
WFLA The sharks were discovered inside their mother.
WFLA They delivered the baby sharks into the water and they instantly swam away.
WFLA The animals quickly fled once released.
WFLA Fishermen Noe Campos said he enjoys rescuing fish.

The group then pulled the babies out of her mother one by one
“I stood in the water for a couple of seconds to make sure they swam off good. I held them and as soon as I put them out, voom! They took off,” Campos said.
But the group was unable to save the mother who succumbed to her injuries, the station reported.
