Police shot and killed a man Sunday evening after they say he lunged at them with scissors in a Brooklyn apartment.
Police say a call for a stabbing brought them to 60 Clarkson Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens at around 8:30 p.m.
According to police, emergency personnel was treating a 38-year-old woman with stab wounds in a second-floor apartment when officers arrived at the scene.
Police say there was also a 31-year-old man inside the apartment, and they say the male lunged at police officers with scissors.
That’s when police say officers fired at the man.
The suspect was struck in the torso, according to police.
Police say they do not know how many times he was hit.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity was not released as of 11 p.m. Sunday
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
Residents on the scene told NY1 that the suspect stabbed his wife inside and then set their apartment on fire, but police had yet to confirm that as of 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
“Apparently, inside the building at 60 Clarkson, a guy stabbed his wife and set fire to the apartment,” said one person at the scene. “Police came in and they shot him.”
“There was a fire. They evacuated everybody up out of there. Now, nobody can go in and out the block,” said another person at the scene. “It was smoky. There was a lot of people in the hallway. There’s mad kids out here with no jackets on.”
Police say several officers were taken to Maimonides Medical Center to receive treatment for tinnitus, or ringing in their ears.
There is no word on what led to the stabbing.
