Thousands of people took part in the 29th annual AIDS Walk New York Sunday morning.
The event started outside the boathouse in Central Park.
From there, participants walked north to 110th Street, then down Riverside Drive before heading back into the park.
Some walkers spoke with NY1 about why they got involved.
“I am here. This is my first time being here, and to support the people that are affected and infected by the disease,” said one participant.
“Love doesn’t kill I say, but AIDS can kill,” said another. “I’m just here to support everybody, to let everyone know that you can live a long, long life with the virus like I have.”
Money raised from the walk will go the Gay Men’s Health Crisis foundation, as well as other local organizations assisting people living with HIV and AIDS.
