Fuming city cops, unhappy with Rev. Al Sharpton’s perceived influence over the NYPD, have been passing around a mock police ID card with the activist listed as the “NYPD police commissioner.”
The satiric art work has been making its way around social media and bears a striking resemblance to a real NYPD identification card.
The ID lists “Sharpton, Alfred C” as “police commissioner” and it doesn’t expire until Oct. 3, 2018.
The phony ID is complete with an NYPD logo, city seal, water marks and Sharpton’s picture.
Sharpton has been front in center in the on-going probe into the death of Eric Garner. The Staten Island man died during a confrontation with police who were arresting him for allegedly selling loose cigarettes.
His death was ruled a homicide by the city’s medical examiner last week and activists have accused officer Daniel Pantaleo of using a banned choke hold on Garner.
The officer has been placed on desk duty while an investigation is conducted.
