A man died and his wife was hospitalized following a break in at their Staten Island home.
Police say they responded to a 911 call at a home in Rossville around 10 p.m. Sunday night.
Inside the house, officers found a 67-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman with stab wounds.
Both were rushed to the hospital, where the man was pronounced dead, and the woman remains in stable condition.
Nearby residents say the married couple may have walked in on a burglary after coming home from the grocery store.
“I even knew the guy. The guy was a good guy. I mean he’s retired. All he does is do his grass and prune his trees and stuff like that. I never expected something like this to happen over here,” one neighbor said.
Police say they are questioning a 20-year-old person of interest in the case.
