Teen Driver Facing Manslaughter Charges in 4-Year-Old’s Death Arrested Again

The teenager accused of killing a 4-year-old girl last year has been arrested again.

Authorities say 18-year old Franklin Reyes was taken into custody on Sunday after police say he made an illegal left turn at 181st Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan.

When officers pulled Reyes over and approached his vehicle, authorities say Reyes then pulled off with one officer’s arm inside of his car, dragging him around 100 feet.

Officer Edward O’Connell suffered injuries to his left wrist and elbow.

Reyes then struck another car and nearly hit a pedestrian before he pulled over and attempted to strike another officer.

He faces numerous charges, including second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Reyes is already facing manslaughter charges for the death of Ariel Russo back in June of 2013.

Officials say Reyes was fleeing police when his SUV jumped the curb, killing Russo and injuring her grandmother as they were walking on the Upper West Side.

An attorney for the girl’s mother and father said he is shocked by the new arrest and that Reyes should not be treated as youthful offender in regards to the Ariel Russo case.
