Brooklyn State Sen. Faces New Round of Charges

State Senator John Sampson is expected to be arraigned today on new charges that he lied to federal investigators.

Prosecutors claim the Brooklyn Democrat made false statements to an FBI agent about his partial ownership of a Brooklyn liquor store.

They say he was then caught on tape directing one of his staffers to help the store resolve its tax issues.

The former Senate Minority Leader has already pleaded not guilty to charges of embezzlement and obstruction of justice in another case.

Back in May, prosecutors accused Sampson of taking more than $ 400,000 from the sale of some foreclosed homes and using the money to fund his failed bid for Brooklyn District Attorney in 2005.

They also say he accepted an illegal loan in an effort to cover it up.
