Mitt Romney told CNN that ‘it’s time for someone else’ to be the GOP’s presidential nominee.

Add Mitt Romney’s name to the growing list of politicians who won’t run for president in 2016.

The 2012 Republican nominee eliminated any possibility of another bid on Thursday, saying “it’s time for someone else.”

“I’ve had my turn. I gave it two good shots,” Romney, who also ran in 2008, told CNN. “Didn’t win and now it’s time for someone else to do it … I’m not running for president.”

“I’m absolutely convinced that there are other people who would have a better chance of becoming the nominee and becoming the next president of the United States better than I would have,” he added.

His comments, while not entirely unsurprising, follow polls released in recent weeks that show the former Massachusetts governor to be a potential favorite among prospective 2016 Republican candidates.

A poll released last week by Purple Strategies showed Romney getting the most support from voters in pivotal early-primary-state New Hampshire, with 25%. The next closest contenders, the poll showed, were Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who got 18%, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who got 17%.

Other polls have indicated strong support exists within the party for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Romney’s 2012 running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

Romney’s statement made him the second past presidential nominee in as many days to strongly dismiss any rumors that he may run for the top spot again.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry also refuted the notion he’d run in 2016.

“I’m out of politics. I have no plans whatsoever. This is my last stop,” Kerry told CNN.
