Boy who fell from high rise dreamed of becoming a doctor: parents

The devastated family of the 9-year-old boy who plummeted from his Bronx high rise Wednesday was a straight A student who had dreams of becoming a doctor, his parents said.

Sidy Fofana’s devastated mom and dad are struggling to understand why the boy decided to walk out onto the roof of their 43-story high rise in Morris Heights before falling to his death.

“I know that he’s dead,” said his distraught mom Sanata Fofana, “I just want to know how he died.”

Sanata said she last saw her son when he went up to his uncle’s apartment on the top floor of the 43 story building on Richman Place Wednesday afternoon before being sent out with money to pick up Chinese food.

But instead of taking the elevator downstairs, the uncle said he believes the curious boy decided to walk up a set of stairs leading to the roof and fell, landing on on some scaffolding on the second floor.

Sanata had heard later in the evening that a boy had fallen from the building and but said she never assumed it was Sidy.

But when cops later knocked on her door and asked if they could show her a photo of the dead boy to see if it was her son, she collapsed in grief.

“He said ‘ma’am, I’m going to show you the picture and you can tell me whether this is your son’s picture,’” the distraught mom recalled while weeping. “They showed me the picture and it was my son, he was lying down like he was sleeping.”

Sidy’s father, Gaoussou Fofana, could barely speak about his son, who was a passionate soccer fan who had dreams of one day becoming a dentist.

“When he was four years old, he go to the hospital to see a dentist, after he said, ‘I want to be there one day when I finish school,’” he said, choking back tears.

“He said, ‘Daddy don’t worry, I’m going to be a doctor, I’m going to take care of you.’”
