People eating rare wild animals such as giant pandas in China could be jailed for up to 10 years.
State media has reported that people eating such meat as well as animals such as Asian black bears and pangolins will end up behind bars.
China has 420 species of animals considered endangered, reports the BBC.
Despite several crackdowns by the authorities people continue to eat the banned meat.
Many Chinese people believe the rare meats are good for medicinal purposes, including helping to strengthen or detoxify the body.
Others consider some of the rare meats to be a luxurious delicacy.
