A 10-year-old girl died after her brother accidentally shot her while unloading a shotgun inside their Georgia home — and now their father, a convicted felon, faces charges for storing guns inside the house, police said.

The little girl, Taylor Jowers, was lying in a pool of blood on the living room floor of the Waycross home when emergency workers responded to a call that the girl was shot about 1 p.m. Friday, police said.

The child died before a helicopter arrived to airlift her to a hospital.

A neighbor called 911 after Taylor’s older brother, who was not identified, ran over for help.

“He just said that his sister was shot and he thought she was dead,” the neighbor, who did not give her name, told WJXT-TV.

“I called the ambulance and all the responders and everything got out here as fast as they could and tried to help her as much as they could.”

Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal told the news station that investigators believe Taylor and her brother were in the living room when the girl asked to hold a 12-guage shotgun.

Their parents were away at work.

As the barrel pointed towards his sister, the boy tried to unload the gun — but accidentally blasted the girl, Royal said.

“You could tell how heartbroken she really was,” the neighbor said.

Police later told the news station that the children’s 33-year-old father, Joshua Jowers, was later arrested for weapons possession.

Jowers, a convicted felon, allegedly had several firearms — including the shotgun — stored inside the home.

An autopsy on his daughter was scheduled for Monday, but investigators are treating her death as an accidental shooting.
