A man and woman were sliced with a knife after what police say may have been a failed break-in.
Police say two men somehow got onto the 17th floor of an Upper West Side apartment building with a doorman.
They knocked on an apartment door and attacked the 26-year-old woman who answered.
Both the woman and her 31-year-old boyfriend were slashed during the struggle.
Other building residents said they are surprised and disturbed by the attack.
“It’s a family neighborhood, there’s very little crime…there’s no crime,” one neighbor said.
“I wonder how they got there. We’re supposed to have a doorman. There’s supposed to be security in our lobby 24 hours a day,” said another.
“I think I’m going to talk to the landlord and the super and the people that work here and find out what they’re doing to make sure we’re safe in this building,” a third said.
The man was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition and the woman left with investigators.
No arrests have been made so far.
