A woman was struck and killed by an SUV on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon.
Jean Chambers, 61, was hit at the intersection of 95th Street and West End Avenue.
NY1 is told that the SUV was traveling eastbound on 95th Street and struck Chambers while turning to go north on West End Avenue
A witness told NY1 that the car dragged Chambers halfway down the block before stopping.
Chambers was transported to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Neighbors are not surprised. They say there is a lot of fast-moving traffic in the neighborhood.
“Sometimes they go fast. Sometimes, people are not that fast crossing the street, the light changes, so it’s difficult to cross the street,” said one neighborhood resident.
“If the light say slow down, I feel a person should slow down. They don’t,” said another.
Police are continuing to investigate.
They say the driver, a 50-year-old man stayed on the scene.
The incident occurred close to where 9-year-old Cooper Stock and 73-year-old Alexander Shear were killed on January 10.
