Questions Surface Following Arraignment of Man Who Captured Garner Video

Controversy continues to swirl around the Eric Garner case now that the man who shot the original video of his arrest has gone before a judge.

Ramsey Orta, 22, was arraigned Monday on weapons charges.

Bail was set at $ 75,000 bond or $ 25,000 cash.

He’s due back in court on Friday.

Police say officers saw him tucking this handgun into the waistband of a 17-year-old girl.

He was arrested over the weekend on Staten Island.

Orta’s family was trying to fight back tears as they left the court house.

His wife maintains that the whole thing is a set up.

“It’s ridiculous. She had the gun on her and she’s home fine. Her dad is a police officer from the same precinct and we’re just finding that out now…Cops say they saw him put the gun in her waistband. They didn’t see him do anything. They didn’t see anything. They wanted a reason to arrest him—o apprehend him so he won’t continue exposure to continue to show what horrible things they do to people,” said Orta’s wife, Chrissie Ortiz after the arraignment.

Orta shot the video that shows police using an apparent chokehold to subdue Garner on July 17.

Garner later died and the Medical Examiner has ruled his death a homicide.
