Conviction Overturned in Case of Police Officer Accused of Plot to Cook, Eat Women

A federal judge has overturned the conviction of so-called Cannibal Cop Gilberto Valle.

Valle was convicted last year of kidnapping conspiracy but was still waiting to be sentenced.

Prosecutors said he plotted to kidnap, cook and eat more than 100 women and discussed his plans with other people online, but the judge said the evidence showed that Valle’s Internet discussions were just “fantasy role-play” and tossed the conviction.

Valle could have faced life in prison.

The judge did uphold Valle’s conviction for illegally accessing law enforcement databases, which carries a maximum sentence of a year behind bars.
