FDNY: Lightning Sparked Four-Alarm Brooklyn Fire

The city fire department says it was lightning that sparked a four-alarm fire Thursday night in Brooklyn.

According to department officials, residents of 214 Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie say they heard a crack of thunder right before the fire started a little after 1 a.m.

The FDNY says 140 firefighters reported to the scene.

The Red Cross has opened a reception center at PS 219 where the residents of the 71 unit building can get food, drinks, and health and emotional support.

Housing will also be provided for those who need it.

Three firefighters were brought to the hospital with minor injuries.
