Charlie Sheen got a scolding from a judge Wednesday over his trash-talking of ex-wife Brooke Mueller and child welfare workers.
The former “Two and a Half Men” star also got slapped with a temporary restraining order prohibiting him from going within 200 yards of Mueller as the former couple’s bitter custody battle over twins Bob and Max unfolds, a well-placed source told the Daily News.
“The judge admonished him to abide by the gag order, but he didn’t threaten him with jail,” the source said, denying a report that Sheen could wind up behind bars for badmouthing his ex. “The judge simply said he wasn’t happy with what appeared to be a violation of his previous order.”
Sheen took notes during the closed-door proceeding and didn’t say a word other than “thank you,” the source said.
Mueller, 36, also attended the hearing and asked for a suspension of Sheen’s visitation rights with their 4-year-old twins, but the judge declined and kept the status quo, the source said.

The photos of Bob Sheen’s face were reportedly included in a letter from Denise Richards explaining to Children and Family Services that the twins are not safe in their mother’s care.
The twins currently live with Sheen’s other ex-wife, Denise Richards, who is their court-appointed temporary guardian and the mother of two of Sheen’s daughters.
Richards’ house is in the same gated-community as Sheen’s mansion and another house he purchased for the twins while they’re with Mueller.
Mueller is allowed monitored visitation in her house, and Sheen can visit with the boys at Richards’ house while she is present as a monitor, the source said.
Sheen, 48, thrust his complicated custody case back into the spotlight Friday when he called Mueller a “pathetic uber loser whore” on Twitter and said officers from the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services were “inept,” naïve “doosh bags” turning a blind eye to her alleged mistreatment of their kids.
He later told celebrity website TMZ.com that he wanted the “crimes” against his sons “exposed.”

Sheen and his ex of three years are apparently in a custody war for their twin boys Bob and Max, who are under the temporary care of Sheen’s other ex-wife, Denise Richards.

“These war criminals will be hanged at dusk to a cheering and jeering crowd, gathered together in love in support of all children who are mercilessly discarded like garbage by (DCFS),” he said.
The twins have been living full time with Richards since early May, when DCFS officials deemed Mueller’s residence a dangerous environment.
News later surfaced that the oft-rehabbed Mueller was back in treatment for substance abuse.
The latest custody battle exploded because Mueller is back in the boys’ lives in a meaningful way, and Sheen claims Bob and Max are responding with “violent tendencies and screaming night terrors,” a source close to Sheen told The News.

Sheen says the ‘crimes’ against his children will ‘be exposed.’
Richards described the boys’ allegedly detached, “zombie-like” attacks on their sisters and small dogs in a letter to DCFS that TMZ obtained.
The “Wild Things” actress said tried to take the boys for an intensive behavioral assessment on the advice of their pediatrician, but that Mueller blocked the move.
Richards, 41, handed over photos of Bob that purportedly showed the tyke looking normal before a visit with his biological mom and then sporting a large red mark on his face afterward.
Mueller allegedly told DCFS that the injury happened in Richards’ care, the Sheen source said.
“It’s unconscionable. Here Denise steps forward to do a saint-like task and plunge her house into chaos, and she gets false accusations from Brooke in return. She’s very worried she might get blamed for something else she didn’t do,” the source said.

Richards has apparently had enough of the ‘violent’ twins, but agrees that they are not safe in Mueller’s care, according to a letter she wrote to the Department of Children and Family Services.
The boys normally love animals but have attacked Richards’ dogs and suffered nightmares about lizards and spiders since returning to Mueller’s house, where their biological mom has a dozen lizards and tarantulas, the source said.

“It’s just bizarre that she’s turning her house into the Bronx Zoo during this time of transition,” the source said. “This isn’t good judgment.”
The source said Sheen believes the boys may have undiagnosed fetal alcohol syndrome.
“He wants to push DCFS to have the boys evaluated by a psychiatrist. He wants an intervention,” the source said. “Brooke says she doesn’t want anything that might lead to medication, but the real reason she doesn’t want this, in my opinion, is that it would expose her actions.”

Mueller attempted to get a restraining order against Sheen after he spoke to TMZ and called her a ‘whore,’ but a judge denied her request.
The well-placed source said Sheen is worried about the boys outside of Richards’ care and is exploring the possibility of suggesting his parents – the actor Martin Sheen, 73, and artist Jean Templeton – or his brother Ramon Estevez, 50, as her replacement.
“He’s responsible for $ 110,000 a month in child care and has a whole cast and crew that depend on him,” the source said when asked if Sheen would consider quitting his TBS show “Anger Management” to try for a bigger role in raising his boys.
“But he may have to consider it,” the source said.
Attempts to reach Mueller’s lawyer were unsuccessful Wednesday.
Mueller asked a Los Angeles County civil court judge for a temporary restraining order earlier this week but was denied.
She reportedly asked the judge in dependency court Wednesday to remove Richards as the boys’ temporary guardian but did not succeed.
“What my family and I are forced to deal with in the last four years, lives outside the pale of any acceptable conduct or decency,” Sheen told TMZ before the new restraining order.
“I am battling an amorphous enemy that needs to be swiftly disempowered.”
