A 5-year-old Bronx boy died Friday after his mom failed to take him to the hospital when he developed a fever, police said.
Cops found Sebastian Guzman unconscious when they were called to his home on Popham Ave. near W. 174th St. about 11 a.m. Friday, officials said.
He was rushed to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, where he died.
The boy and his mother had been staying at the home with a friend of the mother’s for about a month after the mother broke up with the boy’s father, according to police sources.
Sebastian Guzman, a 5-year-old boy from the Bronx, died at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Friday morning. He had been running a fever, but his mother opted not to take him for medical care, police sources said. Shortly before 11 a.m., the boy fell unconscious and never recovered.
The mother told cops she didn’t bring Sebastian to a hospital when he developed a fever recently because he’d been sick like that in the past and recovered on his own.
“But this time it didn’t have the same results, obviously,” a police source said.
The city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The mother could end up facing neglect charges, cops said.
