Tucson cops describe hell house where three girls were subjected to relentless noise and only one meal a day

Fernando Richter was arrested on charges of child abuse, kidnapping and sexual abuse of a person under 15 after three girls told authorities they had been held captive in deplorable conditions for up to two years.




The stepfather and mother of three girls allegedly held captive for up to two years in Tucson, Ariz., appeared in court Wednesday.


Fernando Richter, 34, and Sophia Richter, 32, face charges of kidnapping and child abuse. The court appearance, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. local time, was ongoing, according to police.

Fernando Richter also faces a charge of sexual abuse with a person under 15.


Tucson police say the twisted couple held the three malnourished girls, aged 12, 13 and 17, for at least the last several months and possibly as long as two years.

The girls said they had not bathed in four to six months, according to police.


“They were kept in filthy living conditions and alleged only being fed once a day,” police said in a release.

Police made the stunning discovery when they were called to the home at 4:02 a.m. Tuesday regarding a domestic disturbance involving a knife.


The three victims, ages 12, 13 and 17, said they hadn’t been allowed to bathe for four to six months and were given only one meal a day.

Upon arrival, cops said they came upon the 12- and 13-year-old girls, who had fled to neighbor’s home. The young victims told police they’d been held captive.

Cops say they then discovered the 17-year-old, who was being held in a separate room.


Police released a 2012 mug shot of the girls’ stepdad, Fernando Richter. A police spokesman did not immediately respond to an inquiry regarding what charges the suspect faced at that time.

Neighbors of the Richters said they had no idea kids lived in the home.
