FDNY And NYPD Honor Those Killed Or Wounded In Line Of Duty

Before the parade on Thursday morning, the NYPD and FDNY took a moment to help make the holiday season a little brighter for the families of first responders.

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation held their annual pre-parade Thanksgiving breakfast in Manhattan.

The organization provides financial support to the kids and families of police officers and firefighters killed or wounded in the line of duty, including scholarships presented at Thursday’s event.

“It’s really an honor and it helps us a lot being our dad was disabled in the line of duty,” said Kayla Hanley, a scholarship winner.

“Somebody that suffers a loss in the line of duty, the holidays are difficult for them. And to be together and for them to see that, we haven’t forgotten their sacrifice, it means a lot to them, but it means an awful lot to us,” said Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano.

Former Mayor Giuliani was among the more than 1,300 in attendance.
