4 Hit and Killed by Cars in New York City


The two victims on Staten Island were identified as Marion Anderson, 47, of Brooklyn and Lizette Sorrano, 59, of Staten Island. The women were crossing Forest Hill Road at around 5:30 p.m. when they were hit by a Honda Odyssey that was traveling southbound, the police said. The driver of the vehicle, identified by the police only has a 59-year-old man, remained on the scene.


About 15 minutes before that crash, a Con Edison truck making a left turn onto East 16th Street from Avenue C in Manhattan struck an 88-year-old woman, the police said. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she was pronounced dead.


Another crash occurred in Queens at 5 p.m. The police said Pedro Lopez, 54, was on a bicycle and trying to cross Borden Avenue at the intersection with Maurice Avenue in Maspeth when he was struck by a white commercial truck. The driver fled and remained at large as of early Thursday.
