Millions Lined Streets For Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and this year’s edition rolled through Manhattan with bells on.

Over 8,000 performers, marching bands and clowns participated in this year’s parade, as well as 30 floats and 14 giant balloons.

Crowd favorites Snoopy and Woodstock were back with a brand new look for their 37th Thanksgiving parade appearance.

Concerns of high winds had the much-anticipated giant balloons flying lower than usual, but parade-goers from around the world still gave rave reviews.

“We had to drive about eight hours to get here in our car, then we had to drive about an hour to get here, so yep I’m really glad to be here,” one attendee said.

“I really liked all the marching bands that have been here today, like the ones going right now and I’m really thankful to be here, this is my first time in New York, so I’m really happy to be here with all my family,” said another attendee.

“I’m a really big Spongebob fan, so I loved the Spongebob float, and just you know, the energy, the enthusiasm,” a third said.

Some spectators lined up along the parade route as early as 4 a.m.

There are four new balloons at this year’s parade. New additions include a new Snoopy and Woodstock, Spongebob Squarepants, Toothless from the film “How to Train Your Dragon” and characters from the show “Adventure Time.”

And of course, Santa Claus capped off the parade, signaling the official start to the holiday season.

Organizers said about 3 .5 million spectators lined the sidewalks to watch the event, with many millions more watching on TV nationwide.
