Drunken mom abandons 6-week-old son in Brooklyn

Mom Alevtyna Savchuk was arrested after leaving her 6-week-old son alone in a stroller on a street in Homecrest, Brooklyn.



She made a really bad call.


A 21-year-old Brooklyn mother was busted after getting drunk and leaving her 6-week-old son alone in his stroller in the street, cops said Monday.

Alevtyna Savchuk left her cellphone with the infant when she abandoned him between two parked cars at E. Ninth St. and Avenue V in Homecrest about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.


A 911 caller led emergency service workers to the baby, who was taken to Coney Island Hospital in stable condition. Cops there found the mom’s cellphone and figured out her identity.

Savchuk was located about a block away from where she left the baby, cops said. She was taken to the same hospital and treated for intoxication, cops said.


Police there put two and two together and figured out that she was the mom, cops said.

Savchuk, who lives in the area, was arrested and expected to be charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, but more counts could be added, cops said.
