Officials arrested five more people in connection with a ring authorities say is responsible for the theft of $ 45 million from ATMs around the world, including $ 3 million from ATMs in New York.
The $ 3 million from New York City ATMs means the cyber attack was the second largest heist in city history after the 1978 Lufthansa Airlines heist.
The United States Attorney’s office released a photo, allegedly taken by the New York-based defendants, showing $ 800,000 in cash, the majority of which prosecutors say was sent to one of the ring’s leaders in Florida.
All five were charged with conspiracy to commit access device fraud and face up to seven-and-a-half years in prison.
Authorities are looking for a sixth man in connection with the incidents.
Seven people were arrested in March as part of the same alleged cyberheist ring.
Prosecutors said the gang hacked a database of prepaid debit cards and made withdrawals in 26 countries.
