“You regret losing your temper,” Cutler said philosophically, “but sometimes you can understand it.”

Renowned mob lawyer Bruce Cutler says his steakhouse scuffle with a fellow attorney left him with bruised feelings.

The one-time mouthpiece for mob boss John Gotti told the Daily News on Saturday that he was disappointed by anonymous insults hurled his way by an employee at the Porter House restaurant.

“All of a sudden, I seem like not a benign enforcer but a troublemaker, and that’s hurtful to me,” the barrel-chested counselor said.

“For somebody who’s working there in the restaurant, where I hold myself to a particularly strict standard of excellence with the employees, that’s more than hurtful. It’s cowardly hurtful.”

One worker at the posh Columbus Circle eatery said Cutler was a regular customer known as notoriously difficult and prone to complaints.

“They broke my heart with those remarks,” Cutler said. “The people who work there are very close to me.”

The broken-hearted Cutler fared better than diner John Aiello — who suffered a black eye when, police say, Cutler whacked him Thursday night.

Aiello, 38, of Brooklyn is a bit of legal heavyweight himself.

The Georgetown law school graduate spent eight years as a Goldman Sachs vice president before moving to private equity firm Lindsay Goldberg last year.

Cutler said he’d received a large number of positive calls after news of the Thursday night punch spread.

“It’s overwhelming how supportive people seem to be for this kind of alleged infraction,” said Cutler, speaking like a lawyer even when he’s the defendant.

He appeared Friday night on the CBS series “Blue Bloods,” playing himself without throwing a punch.

Cutler was dining at the steakhouse with several judges when he complained about the noise from the table where Aiello was sitting with another man and two women.

The defense lawyer reportedly yelled at one of the women to keep it down, and the confrontation escalated — with Cutler popping Aiello before the man could leave his seat, workers said.

Cutler did acknowledge that his emotions perhaps got the better of him.
