Man Held Without Bail In Connection With Beating Of NYPD Sergeant

A man is being held without bail after he was arraigned Monday in connection with a beating that left an off-duty NYPD sergeant hospitalized.

Hayden Holder is charged with attempted murder and felony assault.

Police say the attack on Mohammed Deen happened outside St. John’s Express Restaurant on Liberty Avenue in South Ozone Park just before 5 a.m. Sunday.

A still image taken from a video posted on Facebook shown at left is thought to show the moment of the assault.

Deen is said to be in critical but stable condition.

He is in a medically induced coma.

The video of the beating is graphic, but a clip that NY1 looped and slowed down shows the assailant punching the window of a nearby car.

Police have not released any details on what may have caused the altercation.
