Beach at Fort Tilden in Queens to reopen after Sandy

The beach at Fort Tilden (pictured) will reopen to swimmers and sunbathers this summer, according to reports.




The Hurricane Sandy-battered beach at Fort Tilden in Queens will reopen this summer, according to published reports.


A spokeswoman for the National Parks Service did not return calls seeking comment.


Fort Tilden, the site of a former military base, will open to swimmers and sunbathers in July, according to DNAinfo.com.


The beach — part of the Gateway National Recreation Area — suffered heavy erosion during the Oct. 29, 2012, storm.
