Council budget hearing turns into director lovefest

A City Council budget hearing Wednesday turned into a lovefest with the de Blasio administration .

Council members offered up praise — and baked muffins — for the city’s new budget director, Dean Fuleihan, and his staff.

“The dynamic clearly has changed — it’s not as contentious,” said Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito at a hearing on the mayor’s preliminary $ 73.7 billion fiscal 2015 budget.

“We have a mayor that comes from the City Council, that understands the process, understands the important role that oversight plays . . . and respects it,” added Mark-Viverito, a de Blasio ally.

During the hearing, most members lauded Fuleihan for what they called a refreshing willingness to work with the council.

“I love everything you guys are doing” on income inequality, added newbie Council Member Helen Rosenthal (D-Manhattan).
