City Reaches Tentative Deal With DC 37 Labor Union

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday announced a tentative contract deal with the city’s largest municipal union.

DC 37 represents more than 120,000 city workers who have been without a contract since 2010.

Under the tentative agreement, employees will receive raises of 10 percent over the first seven years and a $ 1,000 ratification bonus.

The Municipal Labor Commission and the city have also agreed to secure $ 3.4 billion in health care savings through 2018.

After that, $ 1.3 billion in savings are promised every year.

“This is an example of what respect and cooperation makes possible. Over those four long years while people waited, they were treated to a lot of disrespect,” de Blasio said.

“I want to commend the mayor for listening and wanting to work with us to make this a better city for workers and New Yorkers,” said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts.

As of Wednesday, 60 percent of the city’s work force has reached an agreement or has a tentative agreement in place.

The total cost of the deal is $ 1.75 billion.

The union’s president says the executive board has signed off and intends to send out ballots to union members starting next week.
