Clear Skies Expected for Annual Macy’s Fireworks Show

Despite a gloomy start to the holiday, spectators heading to the East River tonight for the 38th annual Macy’s fireworks show can expect clearer skies and warm temperatures.

For the first time since 2008 the show will light up the sky over the East River.

Designers of the spectacle say they will put the majesty of the Brooklyn Bridge to use.

Three barges will shoot off some 40,000 effects.

• Post offices, government buildings, city offices, courts, banks, stock markets and schools are closed

• There’s also no mail delivery, and no garbage or recycling pickup

• Subways, buses, the Long Island Rail Road and the Staten Island Railway are running on a Saturday schedule; Metro-North is running on a Sunday schedule

• The Staten Island Ferry is running on a holiday schedule

• Alternate side parking and meters are suspended

The festivities start at 9:20 p.m.

The best viewing spots will be along the FDR Drive in Manhattan and in Brooklyn Bridge Park and along the Brooklyn Promenade.

Access points on the FDR Drive are already open for spectators to claim their spot.

Those heading out to the show should remember that large bags, lawn chairs, blankets, coolers, alcohol and pets are not allowed.

Drivers should expect street and road closures in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Bridge will also be closed through 1 a.m.
