The skies over the city are expected to be clear for the Macy’s fireworks show tonight.
Some Fourth of July celebrations got washed out by rain earlier in the day.
If you decide to brave the bad weather and go to the beach today, be careful of strong rip currents that can quickly pull you away from shore.
• Post offices, government buildings, city offices, courts, banks, stock markets and schools are closed
• There’s also no mail delivery, and no garbage or recycling pickup
• Subways, buses, the Long Island Rail Road and the Staten Island Railway are running on a Saturday schedule; Metro-North is running on a Sunday schedule
• The Staten Island Ferry is running on a holiday schedule
• Alternate side parking and meters are suspended
Beach-goers should only swim in areas with lifeguards, and look for flags and signs indicating rip currents.
If you do get caught in one, you should swim parallel to the shore until you get out of the current’s force, then swim back to the beach.
The threat of storms and showers should be over by about 4 p.m.
Then at 9:20 p.m., the fireworks are set to shoot off over the East River near the Brooklyn Bridge.
It’s the first time the show will be held on the East River since 2008.
The best viewing spots will be along the FDR Drive in Manhattan and in Brooklyn Bridge Park and along the Brooklyn Promenade.
Police will start opening access points for spectators at 4 p.m.
There will also be street and road closures in Manhattan and Brooklyn for the show.
