Gaming operators bid to keep state casinos close to NYC

Gaming operators bidding to open Vegas-style resort casinos upstate want to roll the dice as close as possible to New York City.

Six of the nine plans submitted to the state Gaming Commission are for sites in Orange County, just 50 miles from the Big Apple.

Only three of the bids were proposed for sites in economically hard-hit Sullivan and Ulster counties — the northern portion of the Catskills farthest from Gotham.

Among the bids in Orange County are one by Caesars Entertainment to open a casino resort near the Woodbury Mall.

The state is expected to pick the winning bids in the fall.
