One Girl Dead, Two Others Critical After Being Hit by Stolen Van on Brooklyn Sidewalk

A 12-year-old girl has died and her mother and sister are in critical condition after being hit by a stolen minivan on a Brooklyn sidewalk.

It happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday

Police say 12-year-old Joey Sellers of Brooklyn was walking on Flatlands Avenue with her 9-year-old sister and 38-year-old mother when the van hopped the curb and hit them.

Sellers was later pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

The driver fled the scene on foot and has not yet been found.

NY1 talked to a witness about what he saw.

“We seen the car crash. We seen two girls laying down on the floor by the car. A lot of blood,” the witness said. “Then, we realized that somebody else was under the car, so me and a couple of my friends pushed the car over and then started to pick up the girl or whatever to see if she was OK.”

Police say the van was stolen Friday on McDonald Avenue in Brooklyn.

Their investigation continues.
