Police ID Driver of Stolen Van That Killed Young Brooklyn Girl

Police have identified the driver of a stolen minivan who they say hopped a curb in Brooklyn Wednesday and hit three people, killing a young girl.

Investigators are looking for 26-year-old Robert Decarlo.

He’s described as being 5’7″ tall and weighing 170 pounds.

The incident happened near Flatlands Avenue and East 46th Street around 4:45 p.m.

Police say 12-year-old Joey Sellers was walking with her mother and 9-year-old sister when the van slammed into them.

Joey was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

Her mother and sister are in critical condition.

“We seen the car crash, we seen two girls laying down on the floor by the car…a lot of blood. Then we realized somebody else was under the car so me and a couple of my friends pushed the car over and then started to pick up the girl or whatever to see if she was okay,” said one witness.

Police say Decarlo fled on foot.

They say the 2005 Dodge Caravan was stolen last Friday on McDonald Avenue.
