SUNY Signs Contract to Sell LICH to Fortis Property Group

SUNY has signed a contract to sell Long Island College Hospital.

LICH is being sold to Fortis Property Group after SUNY said two other bidders failed to meet its demands.

Fortis’ proposal includes an emergency department and other health services, but not a full-service hospital.

Residents say the area already doesn’t have enough health care resources and can’t afford losing hospital beds.

Last week, community leaders rallied to demand Governor Andrew Cuomo stop the sale.

They called for an investigation into whether SUNY had given preferential treatment to Fortis.

The deal will now be reviewed by the state attorney general and state comptroller.
