Another Poll Shows de Blasio With Big Lead

In the new poll, released on Thursday by Quinnipiac University, Mr. de Blasio had the support of 66 percent of likely voters, compared with 25 percent for Mr. Lhota. The Independence Party candidate, Adolfo Carrión Jr., received 2 percent.

A poll of likely voters released on Tuesday by WNBC, The Wall Street Journal and Marist College showed Mr. de Blasio with a 43-point lead.

Mr. Lhota, seeking a way to alter the campaign dynamic, said on Thursday that he would ask Mr. de Blasio to agree to weekly debates as they approached the general election, in addition to the two official debates organized by the city’s Campaign Finance Board that will be held in October.

The Quinnipiac poll found strong support for Mr. de Blasio among men and women, and across every income, education and age group. Ninety percent of black voters supported him, as did 68 percent of Hispanic voters and 52 percent of white voters.

Mr. Lhota has been adamant that he opposes raising taxes, while Mr. de Blasio has campaigned on a pledge to seek a tax increase for high earners to pay for expanded prekindergarten and after-school programs. Yet the same share of voters, 36 percent, predicted taxes would go up if either man became mayor.

In another point of concern for Mr. Lhota, more voters viewed him unfavorably than favorably, which may be a consequence of the barrage of negative television advertisements that a Republican rival, John A. Catsimatidis, broadcast during the primary. About a third of voters said they had not heard enough about Mr. Lhota to form an opinion.

Mr. de Blasio was viewed favorably by 63 percent of voters.

The poll, conducted by telephone from Sunday to Wednesday, included 891 likely voters and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
