All eyes are on Washington this weekend as lawmakers scramble to make a budget deal ahead of a possible government shutdown.
A wide array of federally funded services would feel the effects starting Tuesday if Congress does not approve some sort of spending bill.
On Friday, the Democrat-led Senate passed a short-term bill, but that legislation removed language from a House-approved bill which funded the government but also defunded Health Care Reform.
This sends the bill back to the House, where Republicans say the president is not a willing partner.
President Barack Obama, meanwhile, is accusing the GOP of wasting the country’s time and says they will not stop the continued rollout of his health care plan.
“Those marketplaces will be open for business on Tuesday no matter what, even if there’s a government shutdown. That’s a done deal,” Obama said. “As I’ve said before, if Republicans have specific ideas on how to genuinely improve the law, rather than gut it, rather than delay it, rather than repeal it, I’m happy to work with them on that through the normal democratic processes, but that will not happen under the threat of a shutdown.”
Meanwhile, both sides are already anticipating yet another fiscal fight with the deadline to pass the debt ceiling coming in the middle of next month.
