Police Arrest Man In Connection With Ex-Girlfriend’s Brooklyn Shooting Death

Police have arrested the man wanted for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend to death on September 18 after sending her daughters out to buy food.

Officials say 40-year-old Eric McCormick was taken into custody by New York Police Department officers at a house in Hurleyville, N.Y. Thursday night.

Police say McCormick refused orders to come out of the house, and that officers entered the home after hearing gunshots.

Officials say it appears McCormick shot himself in the head, but he is expected to survive.

Once he is medically cleared, police say McCormick will be brought back to the city.

Police say a surveillance video shows McCormick walking to Sellis Gonzales’ apartment in Brownsville on the day of the incident.

They say right before the shooting, McCormick sent Gonzales’ two young daughters to a local restaurant.

When they returned, the daughters found their mother on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Friends and family members of Gonzales gathered outside her Chauncey Street home on Friday.

“He didn’t die, thank God, because I think death would’ve probably been too easy, you know? ‘Cause I want him to pay for it. I want him to suffer and pay for what it is he did to my sister,” said Kirt Gonzales, the victim’s brother.

“She was my child. She is, she’s everything to me. She was everything to me, and she really loved her children. I know her children is going to miss her,” said Ursula Gonzales, the victim’s mother.

“Now, we have to move forward and make sure that this family can unite and build around getting themselves together after this tragedy. It’s all about this little one here and the rest of the family coming together,” said community activist Tony Herbert.

McCormick is being charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The family says they want McCormick to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
